Employment Opportunities

The Sugar Grove Fire Protection District is responsible for the fire protection and emergency medical services for the residents of Sugar Grove Township. We protect an area of approximately 34 square miles with an estimated population of over 10500 residents: with the population increasing with each passing year.

The fire district is overseen by five Board of Trustee members whom are elected. The department’s membership has 14 full time and 30 paid on call personnel operating out of one main station.

If you are interested in becoming a paid on call member you must complete and return a standard application, which is available at the station, or on our website. After receipt of a completed application, we will arrange a time for you to interview.

Prior to being appointed to the department, the following requirements must be completed:

  1. Applicants must be 18 years of age. (not applicable to cadet candidates).
  2. Applicants must reside within a 10 mile radius from the Central Fire Station.
  3. Applicants must have high school diploma or equivalent. (not applicable to cadet candidates).
  4. Applicants must successfully complete an oral interview.
  5. Applicants must have a valid Illinois driver’s license and own a properly insured vehicle.
  6. Applicants must submit to and pass a police background check.
  7. The applicants, after being given a conditional offer of membership/employment, will be required to pass a physical examination, which includes a drug screening test.

Once appointed to the fire department; recruits will be trained in fire suppression and emergency medical care. Members of the department are expected to respond to all fires and/or medical emergencies when available. Upon completion of a probationary period, members will be knowledgeable in the use of equipment, standard operating guidelines, and emergency medical care.

The department will provide you with workers compensation insurance, on the job death and disability insurance, and all necessary protective equipment.

All of our members will agree that the greatest benefit of belonging to this department is having the privilege of serving the residents of this community in their times of need.

I hope that this material will familiarize you with our organization. We look forward to speaking with you personally in the near future and to answer any questions you may have about becoming a member of the Sugar Grove Fire Department.
