Members of the Sugar Grove Fire Department are trained to the levels of Awareness, Operations and/or Technician as defined in 29 CFR 1910.120. Sugar Grove Fire Department personnel at these levels of certifications are trained to discover a hazardous substance release with the purpose of protecting nearby persons, property, or the environment from the effects of the release. They are trained to respond in a defensive fashion without actually trying to stop the release. Their function is to contain the release from a safe distance, keep it from spreading, and prevent exposures. Additionally, members are part of the MABAS Division #13 Hazardous Materials Response Team. Responses in the past year include major hazardous material fires and chlorine leaks.
